COVIDians and their solutions ep. 3: Break Even

How to help support struggling businesses?” is the question on many of our minds in these times.
The economic contraction for Sweden is estimated to be between 7 and 10 percentage points for this year according to Sweden's Central Bank and many businesses are struggling to keep alive.

In this 3rd episode of the COVIDians & their solutions webinar series we feature Break Even, a platform where consumers can help support local businesses by knowing their break-even point. With the forthcoming Break Even app, the businesses who need the most help will be prioritised, with all the best possible ways of helping showcased to consumers. The Break Even team started out at Hack the Crisis Sweden, won 1st place in the “Save Businesses” track and continued on to become a winner of the pan-European hackathon #EUvsVIRUS in the “Stay close to your customers” track.

In this episode we shall be:

  • presenting Break Even to the public

  • pinpointing key moments in Break Even's solution development journey

  • discussing the role of the community in supporting economic development during pandemic crisis times

Our panel for this episode will be composed of:

  • Adam Österman (Acting Head of Innovation Lab at SEB)

  • Arun Sharma (Bombay Palace restaurant owner)

  • Carissma Dennis (Co-founder of Break Even, Media Strategist at Volvo Cars)

The session will be moderated by Inês Boski from Openhack.

TUNE IN LIVE with us from 17.00-18.00 CET on Thursday, 2nd July 2020.

About the series: COVIDians & their solutions is a webinar series that aims organized by Openhack to highlight the ongoing success stories of hackers currently developing solutions to the COVID-19 crisis. It follows up from a set of virtual COVID-19 themed hackathons (Hack the Crisis hackathons, EUvsVirus, The Global Hack and more) from where these solutions arose. Each webinar episode features the founder of a solution to be discussed with relevant public and private sector experts knowledgeable about the solution's scope or involved in the solution's development.
